The film tells the story of a fourteen year old named Jimmy who weighs 187 pounds. Outside the comfort of his family and church, life for Jimmy is a constant struggle. The cruel taunts of his classmates make going to school or playing sports a humiliating experience. Yet, he still manages to focus on his goals — to lose weight and win over the girl of his dreams.

It’s been a while since we’ve updated you on the what-abouts and whereabouts of all things Jay Woodward. So here it goes…
Jay’s been on a song writing spree of epic proportions. Nobody here is quite sure where all this creative influx is coming from, but we like it! By the end he hopes to have enough material for two albums. If only time grew on trees, we would have a definitive date for all this music to be done. No time tree here though. So you’ll just have to wait and see my thirsty friends.

We had a second recording session with Dan and the Honeypots here at the studio that went as smooth as butter. Jay’s been hard at work mixing and mastering the music from Sierra Nevada Records while laboring hard for his money at Capitol Records. What can we say, the boy is busy. There might be something Christmas-y a brewing in the Sierra Nevada Records studios, so keep those jingle bells handy!

Just thought we’d give you a little update on some of the projects Mr. Jay Woodward has been working on these days. For starters, he’s developing some artists to place under his newly formed Sierra Nevada Records.

One such group is a great little trio named Dan and the Honeypots. Members include a man named Dan (obviously) on acoustic guitar, a lovely lady named Erin on the violin/backup vocals and a second songbird named Becky providing angelic lead vocals. Keep an eye out for them as they lead the way in giving a new sound to old worship favorites.

Be on the lookout for a House of Blues style live version of “Feeling Good Again” by the one and only banjo man, Jay Plemons, to be released under Sierra Nevada Records.

Jay’s also been trucking along with his own original music with several new songs in the works. Things are getting exciting folks, so stay tuned for what’s to come out of JayWoodward.com!

Here we are in May 2011 with another Jay Woodward update. I just finished engineering on the David & David produced music of singer-songwriter Nadia Angellini. Which I must say is sounding awesome. The mixes are currently in the final stages of production and I will put them up on here in the next few weeks so stand by. With this record I had a great chance to meet more of David Baerwald’s awesome friends and visit some pretty sweet music landmarks. Capitol Records was one of them.

You may know Capitol Records by its groundbreaking artists such as Frank Sinatra, Johnny Mercer (who started it), Nat King Cole, Judy Garland, or The Beatles. Or maybe by their more recent artists the Beastie Boys, Katy Perry, LCD Soundsystem, or Lily Allen. Chances are you’ve heard a product of Capitol Records every single day of your life. But if not, because you’ve been living in your parents bomb shelter since WWI (in which case just stay underground life is probably better there) a quick Google Image Search of Capitol Records will illuminate your vision with the ‘giant stack of records’ shaped building sitting on downtown Hollywood. Inside Capitol I had the chance to meet the award winning mixers, master’ers, recorders, and undercurrent driving this mountain of success into the future. One Engineer in particular, Niko Bolas was especially kind. You may know Niko from his work Neil Young, Billy Joel, or My Morning Jacket. To sit in and watch the Avid Sponsored Master do his Thang was a surreal experience in which I learned a great deal. I am very grateful to David for introducing me to this world.

Moving on with music

I have continued to pick up where I left off on my own Artist music. I am currently working on some acoustic songwriter stuff that when finished is a sure thing to melt your soul into chocolate soup. And I am also experimenting on the electronic side of life, which is best described as “Indescribable booty shaking fun” by my wife.
