Treefort Studios and the battle for Logic
My most recent endeavor has landed me at the Logic based helm of the unoffically titled “Treefort Studios” perched high above Los Angeles in the Brentwood Hills’ personal studio of music legend David Baerwald. My biggest challenge arrived after taking the engineer’s seat in front of Apple’s music production software “Logic.”
It seems in my experience people either love Pro Tools or they love Logic. As a child of Pro Tools my first reaction was terror. My Pro Tools tutelage lasted a great deal of time while I dragged my feet from lesson to lesson only to once again be confronted with restart at David’s computer. Well, this is what I have to say about Pro Tools vs. Logic (and I will make it very brief and generic because you should still do the research for yourself if you are that interested). Logic has made great bounds in the area of midi sequencing, modification, and personification (not to mention the great comping tool), and Pro Tools is very simple and efficient for editing and beyond. I can’t officially choose a side because if I could I would combine them both to make a super easy yet customizable experience. But what about the record, you ask?
David has teamed up with old bandmate David Ricketts to produce the very talented and beautiful Nadia Angelina. The experience in the studio has been nothing short of delightful even with the long intense music making sessions. To take part in such a talent filled room is an honor and a daily adventure. Not to mention (but I am) all the awesome session players (friends of David) that stop in to add a little spice to the track. Music greats like John Koenig; expert Cellist/ Producer for Eric Clapton, Robert Plant, and Jimmy Page to name a few. Or Val McCallum session and touring guitarist for Willie Nelson, Sheryl Crow, and many more.
Long story short, you have been updated. I am still making music hardcore but have now found an extra special passion in my heart for vintage gear (I’m drooling just typing the words vintage gear). Thanks again for stopping by the site! For updates and such about Treefort Studios follow us on Twitter at (you guessed it) Treefortstudios, and as always you can stay up to date on all my Twitter rantings at jaywoodmusic.
Happy Recordings!
